Participants attended the eight-week program, where they were taught mindfulness meditation, body awareness exercises (also known as a "body scan"), and gentle hatha yoga. Patients were asked to practice at home for 45 minutes a day for eight weeks and record their progress in a diary. The researchers conducted various assessments before and after the program to measure the participants' pain intensity, mood, sleep quality and overall well-being. Results showed that participants reported significant improvements in pain intensity, mood, sleep quality and overall well-being after completing the program. In addition, patients reported a higher quality of life and an improved ability to manage their pain. This study was one of the first to examine the benefits of mindfulness meditation for chronic pain patients and laid the groundwork for further research on the effectiveness of MBSR and mindfulness practices for various medical and psychological conditions. __________________________________________________________________________ Kabat-Zinn, J.
